Flat Roof Testing

  • Flat Roof Tests :
  • Electronic Leak Detection
  • Gas Tracer Testing
  • Dye Testing

Explanation:

Often Flat roofs are a cause for leaks and can cause major damages. Our leak detection team uses ELD (Electronic leak detection), Gas Tracer testing and dye testing to locate any potential leaks.

Flat roofs often leak and can cause major damages:

Flat roofs or balconies can be a nuisance as when it rains water often drips through causing large amounts of damages and creating unhealthy living conditions such as the growth of mould. SD Leak detection has different methods and equipment to locate any areas of water ingress and any potential areas of damage.

Our methods and equipment:

  1. Dye Testing - is a very simple but very effective way of finding leaks on flat roofs or balconies. A large bucket or large spray bottle of water is used and is coloured with dye, the coloured water is then poured or spayed onto the suspected area. A leak is confirmed if coloured water is found inside the property. Multiple areas can be tested at one time with the use of different colours.

  2. Tracer Gas Testing - flat roofs or balconies is an effective way of pinpointing an area of water ingress. The way this test works is the areas of water damage are tented up and the area is filled with tracer gas. Our technicians use the specialised equipment to locate where the tracer gas is found coming out on the flat roof or balcony, once tracer gas is located an area is marked.

  3. ELD (Electronic Leak Detection) - ELD testing is an effective non-invasive method of pinpointing pinhole leaks in a roof’s membrane. An ELD uses an electrical pulse that is sent through the building, because most roof membranes are non-conducting when an electrical signal is detected a leak can be confirmed. This test can be done wet or dry.
