Explanation:
Our equipment is state of the art up to date hi-tech equipment.
Psychometric Moisture and Relative Humidity meters, Thermographic Survey, Tracer Gas sensors, Acoustic Profiling equipment, Endoscopic cameras and exceptionaly long Drain cameras.
Moisture metres are essential instruments used to check for excess moisture in different materials such as wood, concrete, tiles, laminate and plasterboard. We use non penetrating Tramex moisture metres which means we don’t have to damage your property. With moisture metres we are able to determine if an area/room has excess moisture, the different path that water travels and even check a room's humidity level.
With some leaks water creates a specific noise when leaking. This is exactly what our acoustic detectors are looking for. Water leaks produce different frequency noises that can easily be picked up by acoustic detectors. With this information we are able to establish if the leak is on the hot, cold or central heating lines and sometimes pinpoint an area to make access. We even use compressed air to create a bubbling that is very audible. We can detect leaks in all materials, even buried underground or in concrete.
Water leaks come in many forms and finding them through thermal imaging leak detection is one of the methods used. However, although it is a very powerful and useful method to find leaks, you would struggle to find water leaks with thermal imaging alone. With a thermal camera we look for hot or cold anomalies that could indicate a leak, we also use it to locate the hot water lines in a concrete or sometimes suspended floor to get an idea of how the pipe runs in the property. This is a very useful tool for pipework mapping.
Tracer gas is one of our most advanced methods to find leaks. Tracer gas is a 5% hydrogen and 95% nitrogen mixture of gas that is safe for everyone, the particles are so small that they even travel through concrete or compacted soil. When testing your central heating we first drain the water out of the system and isolate the boiler if that is possible, the tracer gas is introduced through a pipe connected to the radiator and pressurised. On any water line the water is isolated and drained down, tracer gas is then introduced through one of the tap connections and pressurised. We then use our equipment to search the property or area for tracer gas that would escape where the leak is. We can also monitor the gauges over time to check for a drop in pressure.
At Leak Hunters we have some of the best endoscopic cameras on the market. Sometimes a small hole is made into the boxing or ceiling so our endoscope cameras can have a good look around and check for leaks. Our cameras are 1080p HD and the heads can rotate 180 degrees so that nothing is missed. The hole that is made is smaller than a 5p coin and is easily repaired.
We don't shy away from drainage at Leak Hunters, in fact some of our engineers enjoy it so much that they get to look at your drainage pipes in HD. We use a highly advanced closed-circuit television system that is inserted into hard-to-reach waste pipes. The high-definition cameras can spot leaks, blockages, deterioration and can provide a full structural integrity report.
At Leak Hunters we sometimes make use of smoke pellets to locate leaks in roofs and drainage. Although this is not the preferred method for our engineers, who can usually locate leaks with all the other equipment.
A Cat and Genny is one of the most useful tools for tracing the pipework around your property. We also use it to search for hidden electric cables when doing mains replacement or just digging up a pipe to repair a leak. A tracer cable is inserted into a pipe and our equipment can tell us where the pipe is and how deep it is.
Trace and access is locating leaks using specialised equipment and knowledge,, once our leak detectors find the leak we make sufficient access for a repair to be carried out. Most home insurance policies cover trace and access.
